De Kans is een SBO school die zich ten doel stelt de leerlingen te begeleiden op leer- en sociaal emotioneel gebied. Respect voor een ander speelt daarbij een belangrijke rol.
De Kans biedt daarom een gestructureerd, veilig pedagogisch klimaat, waarin kinderen zich prettig voelen en geaccepteerd door leerlingen en leerkrachten. Op De Kans wordt gekeken naar wat het kind kan en wat het kind nodig heeft om te leren.
Onze school telt 13 klassen met een vaste groepsleerkracht of vaste groepsleerkrachten.
Elke dag zijn er nog extra leerkrachten die de groepsleerkracht ondersteunen in de klas of met een kind alleen werken. Dit is om kinderen extra te kunnen ondersteunen bij lesstof die ze moeilijk vinden.
Er wordt regelmatig onderzocht of de kinderen nog op het goede niveau lezen en de groepjes worden dan weer aangepast. Het geeft de kinderen veel zelfvertrouwen om met kinderen van hun eigen niveau te werken. De extra leerkrachten zijn vaak in de klas om samen met de leerkracht les te geven. De kinderen kunnen dan meer aandacht krijgen.
