Het Altra College is een school voor kinderen die door gedrags- en/of psychiatrische problemen niet kunnen deelnemen aan het gewone voortgezet onderwijs. De meeste leerlingen die op het Altra College zitten hebben eerder op een andere school gezeten. Op het Altra College krijgen ze een nieuwe kans, zodat ze weer terug kunnen naar de school die het beste past bij hun mogelijkheden. Als dat niet lukt, proberen we hen voor te bereiden op een baan. Er wordt gewerkt in kleine groepen (zeven tot veertien leerlingen) waardoor veel individuele aandacht kan worden gegeven. Net als in het gewone voortgezet onderwijs krijgen de leerlingen les in zowel theorie- als in praktijkvakken.
Ongeveer 40% haalt jaarlijks een of meerdere deelcertificaten op vmbo-niveau. Ook zijn er leerlingen die een IVIO-deelcertificaat behalen (individueel onderwijs). Het Altra College is onderdeel van de Stichting Altra, een instelling voor jeugdzorg en speciaal onderwijs.
